If you are referring to Conbagui's text post, yes I do love it. I want to try all that stuff but with this hot humid weather, all I want to do is read. When it cools down I will get back at it.

Thanks for all the comments,

Molly - Nice result and I like the noise layer, works really well.
Esper - Great, like the idea of the double hexagons, what method did you use to get them.
conbagui - Nice results and liking the text.
wbool63 - Glad it all worked out today the result looks good.

As to a text effect, below is the idea I had of using the pattern....

Nice tutorial...if I can follow it, anyone can! am I supposed to have a transparent border around it? I assume that is from the drop shadow. Is this seamless or...how can I make it seamless.

Esper - Thanks
Molly - I type the text I'm after, then autocrop and finally use the align tool to centre.
Fluffy - Nice design, liking the cubes.
2-Ton - The border comes from the fact the shadow layer is bigger than the image, hence why you unchecked the resize option. As to making it tileable, you could either crop the metal part into a tileable size then create a new tileable background or play around with the settings in the mosiac filter.

he4rty: i like that gimp chat text! and the effect looks good with the polka dot pattern too :).
fluffybunny: cool cubes!
akros: "erase every other row and run" actually that is my favourite distortion filter, i've used it a lot.

this was a very simple and fun tut to follow and i can see so many fun ways to tweak it! i'm sure graechan's script will give me even more ideas too, they usually do.

for this i used the pack sprites filter in g'mic and after making the grid i ran tileable wind on it. i had to offset the pattern layer and work on the metallic mesh by hand to make it seamless and i am not entirely happy with the metallic look - next time i'll probably use another gradient and chrome curve - but all in all i like the resulting pattern a lot.
