Penang Snake Temple

Snake Temple

The Snake Temple is located in Sungai Kluang, Bayan Lepas that is south of Georgetown, on the way to the airport is a very old temple. The temple was built in 1850 and was dedicated to the Buddhist priest Chor Soo Kong. Legend says that Chor Soo Kong, who was also a healer, gave shelter to the snakes of jungle. After the completion of the temple, snakes appeared on their own accord.

Today the snake population of the Temple of the Azure Cloud is very small, due to the urbanization of the area, but still can see a few snakes coil up on the altar tables, on top of frames hung around the temple and on top of little plants in the temple.

There is not any entrance fee to this temple. But there will be a charge of  RM5 as an entrance free to the snake gallery at the temple itself. Besides, persistent snake handlers will charge RM30 for anyone want taking photo with holding a snake.
