After careful consideration I have decided to transfer all hardware review activities to a new domain.  I purchased Hardwareasylum.com in 2012 and have been working hard to build a new and improved Ninjalane on that domain.  If you are reading this you have reached one of the archived articles, news, projects and/or reviews that were left behind during the site migration.

Please update your bookmarks and be sure to visit the new and improved Ninjalane at Hardwareasylum.com

    The Xpert Way

As we mentioned before, aside from some extra stuff along the top the memory module is identical to the TwinX 3200XL modules we reviewed last July. The timings are identical and share the same voltage requirements. Most of the changes are cosmetic and specific to the new features. A double bank of interface pins is used to communicate with the digital display and the raised notch along one side ensures that it will be aligned properly.
Our test board is the Chaintech VNF4 Ultra and supports up to 4 DDR memory modules. One thing that was discovered during testing is that despite the ability to have 2 memory modules connected to a single digital display they fail to work properly, For instance instead of a scrolling message across the display only a single digit lights up and proceeds to show you every 3rd or so letter. So, if you are planning to fill every memory bank but sure to only use a single set of Xpert modules and you'll be fine. In our photo we installed 2 regular ProSeries 3200XL modules and 2 Xpert modules. To our surprise the digital displays would install over the ProSeries memory and still work perfectly. The only drawback, you completely cover one set of LED activity lights.
