‘Shame on you’: Shock update on Cadbury chocolate price mystery leaves shopper fuming

‘It doesn’t make sense.’

Woolworths shoppers baffled by major Cadbury chocolate change

A Woolworths customer has taken aim at a supermarket giant after spotting a major update in the controversy surrounding the price of Cadbury Dairy Milk.

Last month, shoppers were left baffled after noticing that 360g blocks of the popular chocolate buy were the same price as 180g blocks of the same variety.

Sharing on Reddit, a Woolies customer shared an image of the Cadbury display, showing how the vastly different-sized items — placed side by side — had identical $6 price tags.

Another Woolworths shopper took to TikTok with a video pointing out the same pricing detail.

Now a Woolworths shopper has noted that the price on 360g blocks of Cadbury Dairy Milk Chocolate has gone up to $7 in recent days.

“How do you justify another full dollar increase on a 360g block of Cadbury chocolate?” she asked.

“Two years ago and for many years before it was $5. Then it went up to $6. Not happy! Today I see it has gone up to $7! Why????

“This is just one of so many of your shelf items. Super not happy and will now buy all our chocolate at Aldi.

“Now I understand why you made over a billion dollars profit - shame on you in this desperate financial climate Woolworths.”

A check of the Woolworths and Coles websites has confirmed the new $7 price, while 180g blocks of the same buy are still priced at $6.

A Mondelez Australia spokesperson has previously told 7NEWS.com.au: “Our retailers set pricing and work hard to deliver great value for Australians through their promotion programs.”

7NEWS.com.au has reached out for further comment.

Last month, the social media users who were the first to raise the pricing issue of Cadbury Dairy Milk predicted that a price rise could be on the way.

“The Cadbury 360g blocks of chocolate are the same price as the 180g blocks at Woolworths, insane inflation or pricing error?” one Reddit user said.

“The smaller blocks are double the price per 100g, wondering if this is a delayed price point change for the 360g? Probably will be $9 in a week.”

In another social media video, another Woolies customer made the same assumption.

“Supermarket maths is a 360g block of chocolate being $6 and then the same type of chocolate, only 180g, also being $6 - but with a $5.50 on sale tag on it,” the shopper, who uses the handle @..emmy.m, said.

“And then calling it customer savings.”

She later added: “Are they the same price cause the shops are planning to up the price of the bigger block?”

Many social media users agreed that there was something fishy about the pricing strategy.

“Just you wait, the big block will be $12 next week and then half price the week after,” one said.

Another commented: “That’s bull*** honestly.”
