Aussie's rave reviews on Cadbury's new range of chocolate

It’s the packaging that almost anyone can recognise — Cadbury’s bright purple wrapper with gold writing.

But not many people know the reason behind the confectionary brand’s iconic packaging, and it’s only now that people are starting to learn about the origins of the wrapping.

Cadbury began as a family business nearly 200 years ago in Birmingham, UK. In February 1854, 30 years after starting the business, the company became the official cocoa and chocolate manufacturers for the British Royal Family.

But it was in 1914 that the company chose purple as its signature colour.

It was originally selected as a tribute to Queen Victoria, which was her favourite colour.

But by 1920, Cadbury’s full Dairy Milk range was wrapped in the iconic purple packaging we see on our shelves today. More than 100 years later, nothing has changed.

People on social media are going wild over the recent revelation.

“As a chocoholic and big lover of Cadbury’s Dairy Milk, I found this story interesting,” one person wrote on Twitter.

“I’ve always wondered why Cadbury’s packaging is purple — now I know!”

Big changes

It’s not the first time this week that Cadbury has surprised its fans. The confectionary company recently launched a brand new character to join the likes of the Freddo Frog and the Caramello Koala.

A big change is coming to the iconic Caramilk chocolate bar, with the addition of the Caramilk Wallaby - a nod at Australia’s love of sport.

Each 12g wallaby will be made of Cadbury’s Caramilk caramalised white chocolate in a share pack of 12.

The new chocolate character will be available exclusively in Australia and from all leading retailers.

“We are so excited to be introducing a new Cadbury character to Australians,” said Paul Chatfield, Vice President Marketing ANZ, Mondelez International.

“We know the Wallaby is such an intrinsic Australian character, with deeply ingrained roots in sport, and nothing reflects Aussie’s love for sport more than our prized Wallabies and Wallaroos rugby teams.

“No matter whether a sporting or Caramilk fan, this new character is for all Australians to enjoy and celebrate.”
