Diprotodon, the largest known marsupial that ever lived, roamed Australia during the Pleistocene epoch until its extinction about 50,000 years ago. This prehistoric giant, resembling a massive wombat, could reach up to 3 meters in length and weigh as much as a small car. 

Diprotodon was a herbivore, feeding on a variety of plants, including leaves, shrubs, and grasses. Its name, meaning two forward teeth, refers to the pair of large, tusk-like incisors in its lower jaw. Diprotodon's fossils, including full skeletons and footprints, provide valuable insights into Australia's ancient megafauna and the environment in which they lived.
