BOINC is a program that let you donate your idle computer time to science projects like Climateprediction.net, Rosetta@home, GPUGrid, and many others. After installing BOINC on your computer, you can connect it to as many of these projects as you like.
SETI@home is a project of the Berkeley SETI Research Center to analyze radio signals, searching for signs of extraterrestrial intelligence.
Until March 2020, it was run as an Internet-based public volunteer computing project that employed the BOINC software platform.
Start date: May 17, 1999 Originally 'Seti & Home Working Screensaver' (SETI - the Search for ExtraTerrestrial Intelligence) was designed to utilize public pc downtime to help calculate the limitless amounts of radio signal data collected looking for 'the Signal' that would be evidence of alien life using radio waves ... (I know...)
The software could help with many different Berkly.edu science projects. For some projects an additional software VirtualBox needs also to be installed (There is a link in the doc files included.) The SEARCH itself has been paused as of 2020, but was publicly funded by donations for 21 years!
There are 2 zip files; BOINC install 2006 and the original Seti@Home Working Screensaver 2004.
