Catweazle by Richard Carpenter
Novelisation of the 1st Series from the London Weekend Television show, made in 1969.
Catweazle is a magician who lives in the 11th Century. But his spells never work! One day, however, when the Norman soldiers try to capture him, in desperation he tries a flying spell -- and he flies! The only trouble is, he flies in the wrong way: Catweazle flies through Time instead of Space, and ends up nine centuries later, where he believes that everything he sees - motor cars, telephones, electric light (‘Electrickery’) - all happen by magic!
In the 20th Century, the forest which was Catweazle's home is now a farm. Alone, save for his pet toad, Touchwood, he's befriended by the farmer’s son, Carrot, and tries to find his way in
the 20th Century, whilst hiding from the world in a disused water tower. Carrot's widowed father, Charles, is baffled by his son's sudden interest in what he mistakes for an old tramp, who seems to hang around the farm whenever Charles is trying to romance their beautiful new doctor, Jane.
A comic tale of misadventure, as seen in the 1st Series of the London Weekend Television show.
