Inside Kevin Rudd and Therese Rein's new $5 million mansion

Therese Rein, former prime minister Kevin Rudd’s wife, has reportedly expanded her property portfolio, snapping up a $5 million Noosa designer mansion, according to Domain.

The three-bedroom home was built by Hutchinson Builders in 2018, and designed by Melbourne-based architecture firm J Dale Fisher Architects.

It’s not the first Sunshine Coast property the couple have invested in: Rein and Rudd were revealed as the mystery buyers of former tennis player Pat Rafter’s home in July this year.

The seven-bedroom mansion set the former PM and his businesswoman wife back around $17 million, after they bought it off of Betty’s Burgers & Concrete Co founders David and Louise Hales.

At the time, Rein said the pair had “made a conscious decision” to invest in Australia.

"While Kevin was in office, we had to invest overseas to avoid conflicts of interest,” she said.

“We’ve now mostly brought those investments back home to Australia."

Rudd, who is currently the president of New York-based think tank Asia Society, revealed he was extremely fond of the Sunshine Coast.

“It’s our community and we love it," he said.

"It’s where I grew up and it has a really bright future."
