TV star Margaret Pomeranz brutally roasts MAFS cast: 'Toxic fame tarts'

The popular personality has taken a savage swipe at the reality show.

Beloved Australian TV star and film critic Margaret Pomeranz has hilariously roasted Australia’s highest-rating programme, Married At First Sight.

The 78-year-old former host of ABC’s At the Movies slammed the reality show’s concept, cast members and experts during a segment on The Weekly with Charlie Pickering on Thursday evening.

Margaret joked that no other programme honours the sacred bond of marriage more than MAFS, which she described as “a groundbreaking social experiment in which mentally fragile halfwits marry toxic fame tarts”.

“The show’s premise is simple,” she explained. “Romantically hapless singles marry a stranger picked by experts from a dazzling array of psychopaths and D-minus duds with apparent stench disorders.

“And the participants don’t disappoint, representing a smorgasbord of only the highest quality horse meat garnished with the finest of red flags.”

Margaret then poked fun at the structure of the social experiment, remarking that the couples move in together just so they can learn “all the profound and intricate ways in which they are wildly incompatible”.

“But as the sham marriages between mentally defective lemons inevitably crumble, it’s the experts who shine, feigning emotions in performances worthy of Olivier,” she added.

'Hilarious'

A number of viewers applauded Margaret’s review, with one person saying the video was “a joy to watch”.

“If anyone can hit the nail on the head and actually describe a show so accurately and aptly it is Margaret,” another added.

“Never seen the show - but Margaret's review was SO joyfully awful, part of me, wondered if I would find it hilarious,” a different user replied. “But I don't think I have enough life left to waste on such awfulness.”

“I love Margaret so much,” someone else remarked, while others called her “a treasure”, a “TV critic extraordinaire”, and “the last common-sense critic out there”.

The clip comes shortly after Margaret shared her savage opinion on the latest season of The Bachelors, where she described the three leading men as “C-minus horndogs” trying to find love with “emotionally stunted fame hounds”.
