The big problem with Havaianas that has customers hopping mad

Havaianas have been the thong of choice for many Aussies since they hit the market here in the late 1990s.

The 55-year-old Brazilian brand became renowned for their tropical patterns and their sturdy, long-lasting rubber - with a price tag to match their quality.

But the big brand's popularity in Australia is on the wane, with disgruntled customers flocking to Havaianas' Australian Facebook page to complain about its nosediving quality and poor longevity.

Flip-flops are now breaking and snapping after a few week's worth of wear, according to dissatisfied customers who are posting pictures of their ruined thongs to Facebook.

"I've always loved Havaianas but have noticed the quality of them have become quite poor," one customer wrote.

"I've bought two pairs in the last 6 months and both have snapped in the same place. I've had a $5 pair of thongs from Kmart that have lasted longer."

Another Facebook user complained about warranty and customer service issues, writing: "The quality has gone down hill and so too the customer care."

"I paid cash for my pair of thongs and despite photos of the rubber snap failure, they are insisting I go through my bank records for the purchase proof," the customer wrote.

"Hello, I paid cash!

"They have huge mark ups on these thongs - Retail $50 Cost about $10.

"You would think it would make sense for them to replace something that cost them $10 and keep making the $40 out of happy and loyal customers.

"If they keep this up, they wont have to worry about warranty claims - they won't have any business!"

Havaianas offer customers a six-month warranty issues but many customers complained that they paid cash or did not keep receipts because they were used to their thongs lasting longer than six months.

According to News Corp the company has been inundated with complaints this year but would not officially comment on the reports of quality decline.
