BaT Exclusive: Aussie-Market 1973 Ford XB Falcon

This 1973 Ford XB Falcon coupe has been in the hands of the current seller for about 7 years. He acquired it through a gentleman who at the time was importing Aussie cars and delivering American iron down under. Coupes in this condition are hard to come by in Australia, and the seller tells us he knows of only five currently in the USA. This one has been to shows all over SoCal and is driven to work once or twice a month. He is making some major life changes and classic cars don’t fit in right now, so it’s time for someone else to enjoy this interesting muscle car. It is available in Los Angeles, California for $25k.

The car is driven regularly and is in very nice condition according to the seller. The exterior presents very well however there are a few blemishes in the paint and there are 2 small dents, 1 on each front fender. The interior is excellent with only some mild drying along the door trim tops where the Aussie sun baked them. It rides on dealer option aluminum 5 spoke wheels with brand new BFG rubber.

Here is the story of the car’s importation straight from the seller:

“Since the late ‘70s/ early ‘80s, I lusted after an XB Coupe when I saw the Mad Max movies. Fast forward to the late ‘90s and I began looking for a Coupe. I dealt with many different sellers in Australia always finding that the cars were either very rusty or incomplete. As I was watching prices climb, I figured the quest would be over. However, in 2004, I got an email one day from an importer who was working on a deal and had a car on a transport to him. With only 2 snapshots, I took a chance and bought the car. It was delivered to me several weeks later, barely running and covered in sap. I sorted the running issues, replaced the carburetor and distributor, full exhaust system, etc. It ran like a top….a fast top. Then I set about removing the sap and buffing out the paint. With the exception of the 2 mentioned dents, it came out beautifully. So nice, in fact, that I decided not to paint it. The interior was already very nice so I left that alone. Through the years I’ve done the regular maintenance and replaced wear items and enjoyed the car.”

The Cleveland motor is very strong and along with the 3-speed auto, makes a great cruiser and a super fun stoplight dragster. The suspension is tight along with aftermarket progressive rate springs that deliver phenomenal cornering for a big car. The freeway ride is excellent and the right hand drive certainly turns heads.
