RHD Muscle: 540 HP/5-Speed 1976 Ford Falcon XC

This 1976 Ford Falcon XC is a later example of the similar XB coupe driven by Mad Max. A recent looking restomod, the car looks well built and runs an impressive 406 stroker Cleveland, though a few details like over-large wheels and modern, partially aligator upholstered seats aren’t to our taste. The hard points sound great however, like 540 HP, a Tremec 5-speed, A/C and Grabber Blue, and the rest could be fixed relatively easy. Find it here on classiccars.com in New Braunfels, Texas for $64,900. Special thanks to BaT reader James B. for this submission!

Slightly down-sized wheels and a few contrasting body pieces would greatly help the car’s overall look in our opinion—maybe painting the front airdam to match the blacked-out grille and rear wing could help, or reverting bumpers to chrome. Dark tint definitely needs to go, but overall the car presents very nicely and clearly seems to be the result of high-quality work.

Previously-mentioned alligator seat, door and dash inserts aside, the nterior looks pretty good as-is. We’d revert the seats to a more period-correct style as well, but carpets, gauges, and the long-reach shifter are all good to go in their current configuration. Note the quad-tipped exhaust exits visible just aft of the doors on either sides—a Mad Max Interceptor tribute? We’d consider taking them back to one or two pipes per side, but otherwise think it’s a cool touch.

Power comes from a Cleveland 351 punched out to 406ci via a 427 crank. Other details include Trick Flow heads and an Edelbrock intake fitted with Pro Flow electronic fuel injection made by the same company. Output is quoted as 540 HP, routed to the nine-inch, limited slip, 3.55:1 rear via a Tremec 5-speed and torque tube. The trunk and its stainless steel gas tank look just as nicely detailed as the engine bay, and also houses a yellow-top Optima battery and unmentioned nitrous bottle.

Sold with all receipts, we’re a big fan of this car as a whole despite feeling less certain about many of its design details. A few Photoshop mock-ups and a bit of paint could make it really shine, though in the end we’re just happy to see a Stateside example without the previously obligatory fake blower and covered headlights.
