390-Powered 1964 Ford Galaxie 500XL Fastback

This 1964 Ford Galaxie 500XL fastback hardtop coupe was acquired by the current owner in 2009, and subsequent work in 2011–2012 consisted of stripping and refinishing the body, reupholstering the seats, and rebuilding the engine. Power is provided by a 390ci V8 linked with a three-speed automatic transmission, and the car is finished in white over tan upholstery. Features include a center console, an analog clock, an aftermarket digital stereo, a Demon four-barrel carburetor, front disc brakes, American Racing 15″ wheels, and a dual exhaust system. This Galaxie fastback is now offered by the seller on behalf of the owner with manufacturer’s literature, refurbishment photos and records, and a clean Michigan title.

The car left the factory finished in Wimbledon White (M), and it was stripped and bodywork was performed before the car was refinished during the aforementioned refurbishment. Exterior features include quadruple headlamps, round taillights, pillarless side windows, chrome bumpers and trim, and “500XL” badging. The chrome wind splits are pitted, and there are chips in the paint on the rocker panels.

Chrome-finished American Racing 15″ wheels are mounted with 225/60 Fuzion HRi tires that were manufactured in 2011. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums.

The cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench reupholstered in tan vinyl complemented by a color-coordinated dashboard, door panels, and carpeting. Interior appointments include a center console, a heater, lap belts, and an aftermarket digital stereo. A SelectAire air-conditioning unit is mounted below the dashboard, but associated underhood components are not present. The horn does not work.

The three-spoke steering wheel has an aftermarket wrap and frames a horizontal 120-mph speedometer plus gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 87k miles, approximately 14k of which were added under current ownership; true mileage is unknown.

The 352ci V8 was reportedly bored out to 390ci under previous ownership and is said to have been rebuilt during the refurbishment. Features include a Demon four-barrel carburetor and a chrome air-cleaner assembly and valve covers. An oil change was performed in spring 2023.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Cruise-O-Matic three-speed automatic transmission. Corrosion is visible on underbody and exhaust components.

The data plate shown above is secured with replacement fasteners. The vehicle warranty number reveals that the car is a 1964 Ford Galaxie 500XL fastback built at the Los Angeles, California plant and originally powered by a 352ci V8 with a four-barrel carburetor. The data plate further decodes as follows:
