Lot #113304

This 1970 Datsun 240Z is powered by a 2.6-liter RB26 inline-six that has been fittedwith a single-turbocharger conversion as well as Manley Performance connecting rods, CP-Carillo pistons, Tomei camshafts, Injector Dynamics injectors, a CXRacing exhaust manifold, and AEM V2 engine management. Additional modifications include an RB25-spec five-speed manual transmission, an R180 limited-slip differential, 15″ Epsilon-style wheels, KYB struts, Eibach springs, Motorsport Auto front and rear sway bars, carbon-fiber wheel-arch flares, and a Sparco steering wheel. Work following the seller’s 2015 acquisition involved performing an engine rebuild, machining the cylinder head, resurfacing the flywheel, installing a custom driveshaft, replacing the clutch master cylinder, and refurbishing the suspension. The car is described as a running and driving project, and current issues are said to include paint imperfections, peeling interior vinyl, intermittent engine misfiring, and damaged underbody pinch welds. This 240Z project is now offered with a set of four 17″ Rota wheels and a collection of uninstalled parts along with a Texas title in the seller’s name.

The car was repainted in silver under previous ownership and features a carbon-fiber rear spoiler and wheel-arch flares as well as a black-finished tail panel, bumpers, and fender-mounted mirrors. The seller notes rust on the corner of the inspection lid, damaged paint on the hood, clearcoat peeling on the decklid, fading finish on the spoiler, and various paint chips as well as cracking in the paint on the front air dam and fenders and dents on the doors and right-rear quarter panel.

Red-finished 15″ Epsilon-style wheels feature polished lips and are mounted with Toyo Proxes R888 tires measuring 225/50 up front and 235/50 out back. The car rides on KYB struts with Eibach springs as well as Motorsport Auto front and rear sway bars and a rear strut-tower brace. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel discs with Toyota 4Runner-sourced calipers up front paired with Nissan 200SX-sourced rear units. Various bushings were replaced in 2018 along with the steering knuckles and the front lower ball joints and wheel bearings. The seller notes curb rash on the wheels and reports that the emergency-brake line is loose.

The cabin houses bucket seats upholstered in black vinyl with red piping and features a Mishimoto shift knob, a Hitachi AM radio, and manual-crank windows. The rubber seal around the hatch opening is failing, and the vinyl material on the transmission tunnel and rear shelf are peeling.

The Sparco steering wheel fronts AutoMeter instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and centrally mounted gauges displaying boost pressure, water temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and voltage. The digital odometer shows 3k miles, and total mileage is unknown.

RB26-Powered 1970 Datsun 240Z 5-Speed Project

The turbocharged 2.6-liter RB26DETT inline-six was installed under previous ownership and was rebuilt in 2016 by Boost Logic of Austin, Texas. Work at that time involved re-shimming and adjusting the valves, machining the cylinder head, and installing a Wiring Specialties wiring harness. Additional modifications are said to include the following parts and components:

  • Forced Performance HTA3082 single turbocharger conversion
  • Manley Performance connecting rods
  • CP-Carillo pistons
  • ACL main and rod bearings
  • Supertech valves, springs, and retainers
  • Tomei camshafts and cylinder head gasket
  • ARP cylinder head fasteners
  • ATI harmonic dampener
  • Injector Dynamics ID1000 injectors
  • AEM V2 engine management

  • Nissan N1 water and oil pumps
  • Bosch 044 fuel pump
  • CXRacing exhaust manifold
  • Tial Q BOV

  • 3″ aftermarket exhaust with a Borla muffler

The seller notes that the engine will misfire after sitting for several days and recommends replacing the fuel pump inlet line with a larger replacement unit. The crankcase ventilates below the engine, and the unused factory wiring is still present. Dyno results from 2017 as well as recent compression test readings are viewable in the photo gallery.

RB26-Powered 1970 Datsun 240Z 5-Speed Project

Power is routed to the rear wheels through an RB25DE-spec five-speed manual transmission and an R180 limited-slip differential sourced from a 2006 Subaru WRX STi. Work performed in 2016 included installing a custom driveshaft, resurfacing the flywheel, and replacing the clutch master cylinder. Corrosion is visible on underside components and the seller notes damaged pinch welds on the underbody.
