Oriental maori wrasse

This species of wrasse is widely distributed from temperate to tropical zones of the Indian and Pacific Oceans. In Okinawa, it lives in sandy areas at depths from 10 to 100 meters. Its Japanese name comes from the black spot on its side located below the rear end of the dorsal fin. Parts of its body fluoresce yellow when exposed to blue light.
