Merv Hughes, the former Australian fast bowler, responded to a cricket fan who accused him of verbally abusing his brother in the toilet at Edgbaston. Hughes, who is in England hosting an Ashes tour for fans, was present at Edgbaston and closely following the action on Day 5 of the opening Ashes 2023 Test on Tuesday, June 20.

A Twitter user posted a tweet alleging that Hughes mistreated his brother in the Edgbaston toilet. The tweet read “@MervHughes332 any reason you told my brother to shut the f**k up today in the Edgbaston toilet when he simply asked you how the game was going. D**khead.” Hughes swiftly responded to the accusation, stating, “You were there were you …. Heard the full conversation – your as bigga d**khead as your brother!”

During his playing days, Hughes was known for his colorful personality and was a key member of the Australian team. He represented his country in 53 Tests and 33 ODIs, taking 212 and 38 wickets, respectively. Additionally, Hughes scored two half-centuries in Test cricket, with a highest score of 72*. In the 1993 Ashes series, he was the second-leading wicket-taker, claiming 31 wickets in six Tests at an average of 27.26.
