Review: Max Brenner Chocolate Bar

Majority of my blog entries would be about food in Singapore for the next few days but I’ll try to slot in a few skincare products reviews in between. But I am tagging all the food posts for Singapore into “Food (Singapore)“. You can click onto the link if you are interested. Anyways, here comes my third food posts of Singapore. As I mentioned on my previous food post, I won’t be blogging them in chronological order but randomly based on my preference. I actually wanted to blog about BlackBall today, but I decided to do it some other day. Hahaha … So, stay tune if you are interested! LOL!

Anyways, Patrick and I headed over to Max Brenner Chocolate Bar, Esplanade Mall after our unsatisfied dinner at Ippudo, Mandarin Gallery. It’s located at the entrance of Esplanade Mall and just in front of Toast Box. Andrea arrived a while later after we were seated. Took us quite some time to decide what to order. We ordered our drinks first and desserts later when Andrea had arrived.

Dark Chocolate | S$6.90

If you like sweet stuffs, I am pretty sure that you are gonna like Max Brenner Chocolate Bar. I was being told that the desserts and drinks served at Max Brenner are sweet, but I never expected it to be THAT sweet! I purposely ordered for Dark Chocolate coz I knew that Milk Chocolate will definitely be extremely sweet compared to Dark Chocolate. And guess what? Dark Chocolate is already extremely sweet for my liking never mind Milk Chocolate. I even had to ask for warm water to add into my Dark Chocolate to neutralize the sweetness. But I liked the design of their mug though – HUGMUG is what they called it. Cute, isn’t it?

Swiss Whipped Cream Chocolat | S$6.90

Well, what Andrea had here was basically the same like mine but with additional whipped cream on top. She could choose from three different types of chocolates – dark, milk or white. But of course, she went for the dark since she is not a big fan of sweet stuffs as well. She did the same thing too like me – asking for extra warm water and pour it into her drinks when the waitress had walked away. LOL!

Suckao – “Do It Yourself” | S$7.90

I think I should have taken the picture the other way round. Well, Patrick went for Dark Chocolate as well since he had been to Max Brenner before and knew the level of sweetness of their desserts. But I think he likes sweet stuffs more than Andrea and I did. So, this Suckao drink worked differently compared to others. You will be given a mug with a small flame fire burning inside. So, what you’ll do is to pour the hot milk at the side into the mug and slowly adding the chocolate chips in later on. Stir it with the metal spoon provided. The chocolate chips will melt and dissolved in the hot milk a while later. The metal spoon also acts as a straw. Hahaha … Cute invention, isn’t it? Anyways, you are allowed to ask for hot milk refills up to 3 times only.

The Chocolate Chunks | S$10.50

We only ordered half portion and we couldn’t even finish it. In the end, Patrick had to be the one to finish the whole thing. The downside of eating out with two girls is that you will have to finish the remaining food. Hahaha … Both Andrea and I had one slice of The Chocolate Chunks each and Patrick had two. LOL! When we ordered for this, the waitress told us that we could choose a topping. Couldn’t remember what were the topping selections but I only remembered roasted marshmallows and bananas. At first, Patrick went for banana but Andrea and I thought it was weird to have banana on a pizza so we changed it to roasted marshmallows instead.

The white stuffs on the pizza wasn’t cheese but white chocolate! So, imagine the level of sweetness and calories on this pizza. *facepalm*

Truffle Heart | S$16.00

You could have fairly guess what this is based on looking at the picture. This is what we usually called Chocolate Lava or Volcano here in Brunei. Hahaha … S$16.00 sounded extremely steep. Both Andrea and Patrick complimented that this was good. The “cake” itself was pretty crunchy and the dark chocolate inside was pretty thick and smooth. It came with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream. The metal bottle at the side contained chocolate syrup which you have to pour over the vanilla ice-cream.

The aftermath of Patrick’s horrible culinary skill … LOL!

Overall Rating: 8 out of 10

Verdict: Customer service was acceptable in my opinion and food were served promptly after ordering had been made. I have to repeatedly order for warm water to neutralize the sweetness to the extent that the waitress decided to give me one whole jug of cool water.

If you are a huge chocolate lover, I would highly recommend to try this place. But if you are not, maybe avoid this place coz you might not be able to tolerate the level of sweetness. At first, I planned on visiting Awfully Chocolate the next afternoon for snacks. But after having my chocolate overdose at Max Brenner, I decided to cancel Awfully Chocolate off the list in fear of getting diabetes. LOL!

  1. OMG literally one of the best posts i’ve ever read simply coz it made me wanna go have a hot chocolate drink now! :9 LMAO omg i wanna eat all of them so bad xD I kinda love sweet stuffs despite couldn’t tolerate them if they’re too sweet. And this does look extremely sweet! Enough to make my blood high pressure from seeing these pics haha. Had to laughed that you think having a banana as a topping on the pizza is weird. So do i xD But chocolate does taste good with banana though :9 Can Brunei have this too please? *sobs*

    • Hahaha … Before I go Max Brenner, I was pretty excited about it. But when I started digging into the food, I don’t think I could tolerate high level of sugar in my body and thinking about the calories just made me cringe. I had been trying to cut down the sugar level every time for I buy drinks from Ochado and Share Tea.

Well, having banana as a dessert topping with chocolate is not weird at all actually. But if you were given the choice in between banana and roasted marshmallows, I think the latter sounded and tasted much better. Don’t you think so? LOL!

  2. i’m really annoyed that you mentioned the calories … was trying not to think about it, ahhaha! but yeah the food looks great 🙂 i’m starving right now and it’s 12:35 am …
