Charlotte Goldenblatt (Kristin Davis) continues to own every second she’s on And Just Like That... In this week’s all-new installment of the Max show, And Just Like That… Season 2 Episode 10 “The Last Supper Part One: Appetizer,” Charlotte gets a major win at work. She sells an Alex Israel painting to none other than Grammy-winning superstar Sam Smith. The sale is proof that Charlotte is still one of the greatest gallerinas to ever grace the isle of Manhattan. More over, it offers up the opportunity for Charlotte to connect with her new work friends. Charlotte’s subplot on And Just Like That… Season 2 Episode 10 gives us pop stars, modern art royalty, and the return of blackout drunk Charlotte (aka a Sex and the City classic).

A few weeks ago Charlotte made the life-changing decision to return to work after years of being a stay-at-home mother. After overcoming her insecurities, she found herself fitting right in with the other gallerinas at Mark Kasabian’s gallery. The only problem? Harry (Evan Handler), Lily (Cathy Ang), and Rock (Alexa Swinton) don’t seem to get that they’ve got to start picking up some of the slack.

In And Just Like That… Season 2 Episode 10 “The Last Supper Part One: Appetizer,” Charlotte decides to put herself first for a change. She lets her coworkers take her out for celebratory drinks after she sells a major Alex Israel painting to Sam Smith. Those drinks soon lead to shots and those shots inspire Charlotte to dump her phone and ignore her family’s incessant texts. It’s a moment where Charlotte not only gets to proclaim her own power, but it’s one that offers Kristin Davis the opportunity to show a side of Charlotte we haven’t seen since Sex and the City…

So what’s the big deal about selling a painting to Sam Smith? Who is Alex Israel? And why was this week’s episode And Just Like That… a delicious throwback to Sex and the City? Here’s what you need to know…

What is the Big Deal about Charlotte Selling Sam Smith an Alex Israel on And Just Like That Season 2 Episode 10? Who Is Alex Israel?

We’ve known for a quite a few months that Sam Smith was going to have a cameo on this season of And Just Like That… The singer shared an Instagram post from the show’s set back on February 22, but it was unclear what exactly they would be doing on the series. Now we know Smith was playing themself. Their pal Jeffrey is their IRL stylist, to boot!

The fact that Charlotte is selling to Sam Smith highlights that she is a very big deal in the art world. However, what she’s selling them might be an even bigger deal.

Alex Israel is a 40-year-old American artist, writer, and designer who is perhaps best known for his large self-portraits painted on fiberglass. (Charlotte is actually selling Sam Smith one of these pieces in the show.) Israel’s works have been shown everywhere from LACMA to the Guggenheim and his art can auction off for anywhere between $688 and $1,025,000.

Charlotte’s sale is clearly on the higher end of that price scale, which is why the gallery girls take her out for shots…

When Was the Last Time Charlotte Got This Drunk? How And Just Like That Recaptured the Sex and the City Season 3 Premiere’s Iconic Drunk Charlotte Moment

Look, my favorite part of Charlotte’s storyline this week wasn’t the scene where she hung out with Sam Smith. It was when she got totally wasted. The last time I can remember this beloved character getting so sauced was all the way back in Sex and the City Season 3 Episode 1 “Where There’s Smoke.” Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) drags her friends to Staten Island to judge a hot firefighters contest. There, she meets a handsome politician played by John Slattery and Charlotte drinks way too many Staten Island iced teas.

Carrie and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) have to drag the super inebriated Charlotte home. While on the ferry, something snaps in Charlotte and she declares she will get married that year. While Carrie shrugs it off, Charlotte is actually being prophetic. Later that season, she will meet and marry Dr. Trey MacDougal (Kyle MacLachlan).
