Scripture of the Day:

1 Timothy 2:9-10

Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments, but rather by means of good works, as is proper for women making a claim to godliness.

Shame RX of the Day:

Reflect God’s beauty to the world around us and not our own.

Sometimes we can feel shame just for the way we look. If I am honest, I confess that I feel embarrassed when I go into public without makeup. Have you ever felt that way? What is this? You guessed it – shame. For what? For our appearance not looking a certain “perfect” way.

Don’t get me wrong – a little paint on the barn is fine, but our confidence should not come from it. Still, there is something about wearing a pretty item of clothing or doing our hair in a lovely way that makes us feel more beautiful. God created us with an ability to admire beauty, but when the external beauty becomes our focus more than the inner workings of our mind and soul, we lose sight of the true beauty we were meant to possess.

The pressure to try to fit the modern definition of beauty is heavy. An underlying unexpressed paradigm to try and ascribe to tries to distract us from the beauty we were truly supposed to yield.

When we are tempted to cave to the demands of the culture around us as if an outer adornment could ever define our worth, we can remove the false shame that says we are not enough and put on the Word of God, instead.

The latest fads of the day have their appeal to those who look on the surface. We are trained to do so in this culture. But to those who go deep with God, we begin to remove the shame of appearance and be grateful for exactly who God made us to be.

Solomon asked for wisdom when he could have had anything in the world. What do we ask women as for? May it be to reflect His beauty to the world around us and not our own. To do His work and live our lives in a way that honors Him. This is true beauty.
