I am continuing my project of putting ancient near eastern history and prehistory in the biblical framework so that it can be properly understood. As I have mentioned before scholarly material can be useful for this as long as you eat the meat and spit out the bone. That is you take note of any facts that they record and ignore their conclusions. An academic conclusion about the facts is only going to be a haphazard effort to shoe horn the facts into a fairy tale old earth scenario. I recently read an essay by Kirbi Lorentz of Newcastle University. The essay was titled ‘Ubaid Headshaping’.
Mr. Lorentz gives us quite a bit of useful information in his essay. There are only a few questionable examples of head binding before the Ubaid period but during the Ubaid period headshaping of a particular type is common in all areas where the Ubaid culture existed.

I’ve talked about the Ubaid period before. It was basically the period between the tower of babel incident and the settling of the plain of Shinar (Sumer) See Gen 11:2. In a previous study my numbers put the tower of babel incident in the 2600-2700 BC range so the Ubaid period would be in the 3000-2700 BC range.

In previous essays I’ve covered some evidence for Neanderthals being present in the Ubaid period. If you want to bring yourself up to speed those can be found here and here.
In the Ubaid period some people were still living long enough to take on Neanderthal features. Jack Cuozzo calculated that it would take 200+ years before a human face would begin to display neanderthal features.
In Mr. Lorentz essay I found more evidence to support this.

First let’s have a look at the type of head binding that was used in the Ubaid. It was circumferential head binding. There was a one strap method and a two strap method. The goal is obvious these type of bindings were intended to pull the forehead back and down.

Okay this was a time in which the number of long lived people with Neanderthal traits was going down while the number of people with anatomically modern traits was going up. Older people, the long lived people who had neanderthal features were stronger and had bigger brains. They surely were seen as a superior people.
It’s pretty obvious who these headbound children were intended to look like.

In past essays I’ve mentioned how difficult it is to get any info on Ubaid skeletons. Mr Lorentz complained about the same thing. Here is Mr Lorentz’ comment about the situation.

//A survey of the occurrence and prevalence of headshaping in Ubaid or Ubaid-related sites is currently hampered by incomplete recovery (entire skeletal series have been lost for analysis, e.g., at Susa, Parchineh, and Hakalan; Haerinck and Overlaet 1996), lack of detailed publication of human skeletal remains, and scarcity of information on the current whereabouts of skeletal collections.//

Often Mr. Lorentz couldn’t even find out where the specimens were and he’s in the klick. Mr Lorentz attributes this to incompetence on the part of the archaeologists and staff but to the rest of us it’s obvious what’s going on. The evidence is either being destroyed or kept hidden. Anything that disproves the old earth fairy tale will not see the light of day.
