Koh Phangan is Thailand’s 5th biggest island and located 70 km from the city of Surat Thani. Its soft sandy beaches, lush green hills and plenty of delicious food choices make this island one of the most popular places to visit.
Hiking to Bottle Beach Viewpoint was for sure one of my absolute highlights during the 6 months, that I was lucky enough to spend on Koh Phangan.
It just combines everything: Being in spectacular nature, a soothing jungle walk, adventure and a breathtaking view of one of Koh Phangan’s most beautiful beaches: Bottle Beach.
But just to clarify, in this post I will NOT point out how to hike to Bottle Beach from Haad Khom Beach, but show you an easier option by scooter, coming from the eastside of the island.
This way is perfectly suitable for an unforgettable half-day adventure with minimum effort.

TRAVEL GUIDE TO BOTTLE BEACH VIEWPOINT: EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW
Where is Bottle Beach?
As one of the most amazing beaches of Koh Phangan in Thailand, Bottle Beach is located in a more secluded area of the northeastern coast of the island.
Its crystal clear water as well as its remoteness make it a very popular beach to explore.
Since there are only very bumpy dirt roads leading to the beach, it’s a bit tricky to get there if you’re not happen to be equipped with a 4WD.
So please do not try driving directly to the beach with your scooter!
How to get to Bottle Beach?
The majority of people use a longtail boat taxi from Chaloklum Pier for only 150-200 Baht per person each way. The other option would be to simply hike.
You have the choice between two different hiking trails starting from Haad Khom Beach: The scenic coastal hike or the shorter but more challenging jungle hike. I did the latter once and really liked it!
Good to know: If you are planning to hike to Bottle Beach, don’t forget to bring enough drinking water & sunscreen and wear sneaker as it can get really hot and rocky.
How to reach the viewpoint?
As you know, there are many ways leading to Rome.
The first option is to hike up to the viewpoint from Bottle Beach, which takes you about 30 minutes. Follow the signs behind “Bottle Beach 2 Restaurant” to the starting point of the trail and work your way up through the jungle.
The second option would be to drive to the starting point from the top of the viewpoint and hike the rest. That’s the easier (but not less spectacular) option I’ll explain in more detail below.
How to get to the viewpoint: the easy option!
Here, I’ll show you how to reach the viewpoint by scooter from the wilder and less populated side of Koh Phangan, the Eastcoast.
That’s the perfect alternative to the full hike when you’re planning to explore the eastcoast anyway.
We’ve parked right at the start of the hiking trail. To make it even easier, find the “Bottle Beach Scooter Parking” here ON THE MAP.
Now look out for the wooden sign that says “Viewpoint” and let’s go!
After 10-15 minutes of an easy walk through the jungle, you’ll come to an abandoned area, that almost looks like a campground. Walk past hammocks & Co. and keep walking. It’s pretty straight forward actually.
At the end, you’ll have to do a tiny bit of rock climbing until you see the stunning ridge walk to the viewpoint. Such an awesome feeling to stand (or sit, if you’re afraid of heights) on top and watch the sea from above.
