Curtin University Malaysia

About the campus

Curtin University Malaysia is a globally-focused, locally-engaged institution that takes pride in the broad range and quality of its programmes in engineering and related sciences, technology, business, communications and social sciences, which gain strength and currency from its strong industry, government and community links.

By developing new ideas and promoting lasting knowledge, and continually rejuvenating itself with contemporary technology-rich learning spaces, high-tech laboratories and research facilities, Curtin University Malaysia is creating an academic environment where students and scholars from around the world can be inspired to excel in their programmes of study and research.

Established in 1999 as a joint venture between the Sarawak Government and Curtin University to advance knowledge acquisition, socio-economic development and human capital in Sarawak, Curtin University Malaysia has through the years built a formidable reputation for excellence in practical education and outcome-oriented research, and for preparing international graduates for success in a rapidly changing world. Today, it has the reputation for being Curtin’s earliest and largest global campus and is fast expanding its footprint as Curtin’s hub in Southeast Asia.

Curtin University Malaysia is strategically located Miri in northern Sarawak, a region famed for its natural wonders, rich cultural heritage and biodiversity, oil and gas industry, and emerging processing and manufacturing industries. For students, Miri is a vibrant and exciting city that is perfect for growth and reflection, providing an array of post-university opportunities and experiences.

Situated on 1,200 acres of landscaped grounds, unique architecture fashioned on buildings at Curtin’s main campus in Perth, man-made lakes and wetlands teeming with indigenous and migratory birds, it is also one of the world’s largest foreign branch campuses.

Curtin University Malaysia’s students come from over 50 different countries, reflecting its strong commitment to international engagement and becoming a world-class education provider. Staff from over 15 countries further strengthen its international outlook. This cultural diversity adds a rich and valuable dimension to its campus atmosphere, preparing all graduates to live and work effectively in an increasingly global environment.

Furthermore, Curtin University Malaysia is able to offer world-class education and degrees at affordable Malaysian fees, and students have the option to transfer to the main campus in Perth for short study or to complete their degrees at any time during their undergraduate studies. That way, they get the best of both worlds and an even wider global experience.

Moving forward, in its attainment of excellence in education, Curtin University Malaysia is responding to social and technological change and new ways of learning by creating more innovative, technology-rich learning spaces, developing new modes of teaching and engaging students as active and engaged learners. It also understands the challenges modern students face and to ease these complex difficulties, it is providing innumerable opportunities for students to become the best they can be and ultimately achieve their goals in life.
