Match Boxes

About this object

Match boxes, three, rectangular, made of cardboard with a sliding cardboard drawer to hold matches. On each of the long sides of each box there is a rough brown striking surface. Part 1 is a box of Redheads matches with a depiction of a glamorous redheaded young woman on the front and "match trick no. 22" on the back, containing 45 matches with red heads. Part 2 is an empty matchbox, Redheads brand, with a depiction of an obviously pregnant redheaded young woman on the front and the epithet "Celebrating The Spark Of Life". Part 3 is a box containing matches, Kangaroo brand, with a depiction of a kangaroo in red and the Southern Cross on a blue background on the front. The box contains 27 matches with black heads. (It is possible these were brought into the house by the tenant as they are probably dated around early 2000s).
