Mortal Kombat 1 is getting ready for the spooky season and has already brought a stage, and some skins and it’s time for the fatalities. It’s not a bad idea to use the most symbolic element of the franchise as a thematic addition, there’s just one small detail, NetherRealm decided to charge for this extra content. Already bogged down by controversy over its way of adding content after launch, the studio sinks even further, falling into the eyes of fans and hopefully being held responsible for this already-dated practice.
Players Are Righteously Outraged About the Sale of a Halloween Fatality in Mortal Kombat 1
Mortal Kombat 1 was one of the biggest game releases of the year and was highly praised for its gameplay, new mechanics, and story (although there are contrary opinions). But that didn’t save NetherRealm and its new debut from criticism from the gaming community, which may seem boring at times, but often, as in this example, arrives with fair complaints that come to aggregate and improve if the developers are interested in listening to the what your audience has to say.
It is not new that fighting game studios practice the policy of first releasing the game at full price and then adding fighters and other content for an additional price, up to twice, and finally, later, releasing a full version again. at full price or even more. Whether in Mortal Kombat or Injustice, they continue to deliver an incomplete product and charge much more than normal to finally have 100% of the content developed.
Since the announcement of this Halloween Fatality for Mortal Kombat 1, available in the game’s Premium Store, revolts have reignited and complaints have once again rained down on NetherRealm’s head. This journey is not close to an end because the Kombat Pack with new fighters (announced before launch) is coming and you can be sure that players will not rest until they have a fair resolution from the studio. Answers have already been given and promises made in vain as the policy remains in force.
Among disappointed fans with the developer’s attitudes, some are the most angry to the most sad, and amidst the complaints, it is possible to find good ideas for the studio and its future projects. Suggestions such as inspiration from service games like Fortnite could help if NetherRealm chooses to listen to improve, and this could work if they update the base game with a free update or unlockable in-game via missions or digital coins.
It remains to be seen whether, and how, NetherRealm can listen and embrace these suggestions even after hearing them for a long time, perhaps it is time to feel ashamed, swallow our pride, and admit our mistakes. It is not known for sure what the next steps for the developer’s fighting games will be after Mortal Kombat 1 and its extra content, which will certainly be paid for. Injustice 3 now seems uncertain, Marvel characters are being rumored and a sequel to this new Mortal Kombat timeline will eventually arrive.
We hope NetherRealm stops locking its already-developed content behind paywalls or limiting characters for pre-order players. The idea of unlockables or another original form can be applied but if fighting games continue like this, the downfall will be imminent and increasingly evident.
