Rosalie Gascoigne was a sculptor and assemblage artist who began her career at 57 years of age. Rosalie Norah King Walker was born in Auckland, New Zealand in the year 1917.

Whilst raising three children the artist began making assemblages out of flowers. She moved on to working with sculptures using scrap iron and various found materials.

The artist liked to work with items that showed age, and also items that had been exposed to the elements of weather. Gascoigne was known for making assemblage works using international brands that were printed on the side of wooden crates. One common brand was Scheppes.

Gascoigne became the first women to represent the country of Australia at the Venice Biennial that took place in 1982.

Price range information: The artist worked as a painter, sculptor, and printmaker with prices ranging from $50,000 to $750,000.

The artist was made a member of the Order of Australia for services in art and suclpture (AM).

Rosalie Gascoigne passed away in 1999 at the age of 82 years old.
