So I finally got my replacement DVD Drive working only to discover it has the exact same problem my first one had prior to it breaking completely, it cant read discs without a plastic thingy which you place on top of the magnet while the disc spins.
you can see it in the image its the plastic grey thing on the right on the top of the dvd drive case. This must mean that its not the dvd drive thats the problem if it happens to both of them. Any ideas what could be causing it? maybe its tilted? The laser that reads the disc cannot go up and down underneath the disc smoothly so maybe the disc isn't level? I have no idea how to permanently fix this. I don't understand how this could happen to both my dvd drives
