Cedric Diggory was only mentioned briefly in PoA, as the Seeker who won the quidditch match for Hufflepuff; but in GoF, he’s mentioned several times, like being chosen by the Goblet, Cho Chang’s date to the Yule Ball, helping Harry, etc. In the same book, he dies.
Similarly, the Lovegoods are mentioned just once in GoF, when Arthur Weasley talks about them living on a hill near the Burrow. But when Luna was properly introduced in OoTP, I was really scared that something bad would happen to her because of all the foreshadowing. I guess what I’m trying to say is I was really rooting for her and I’m glad she got a beautiful character build-up.
