VARIETIES BEURRE BOSC
PACKHAM’S TRIUMPH
Bosc pears are a beautiful russet brown color with a tall tapering neck and long stem. The color of the flesh does not change when ripe and this can be a slow variety to ripen but, you will be awarded with a creamy, dense pear that is highly aromatic and flavorful. The flavor of a Bosc can be described as somewhat sweet with a hint of spice.
The Packham has a bumpy green skin that gets a bright yellow undertone when ripe. They are very juicy and sweet. The Packham pear is traditionally a late season pear imported from South America or New Zealand.
FORELLE
SUMMER BARLETT
For what they lack in size, Forelle pears make up in sweet flavor and beautiful appearance. Forelles are one of the smallest varieties of pears. A unique characteristic are the red lenticles, or freckles, that set this variety apart from other pears. Their flesh is moist and crisp.
One of the most popular varieties of pears, the Bartlett pear originated in England. The light green skin eventually turns a yellowish color when ripe. The juicy Bartlett pear is excellent as a snack, for use in salads, or in a variety of cooked dishes.

SIZES Pear sizes are determined by the number of pears that fit into a standard 4/5-bushel packing box weighing approximately 44-lb. (20 kg) loaded. For example, a size 90 pear means that 90 pears will fit into a packing box. USA Pear sizes range from 70-count (large) to 150count (very small). The following is a table of the pear sizes we typically carry:

GRADES Although the United States Department of Agriculture has set grading guidelines, most USA Pear packing houses use more stringent standards. Grading is based on standard criteria such as fruit shape and imperfections. The following is the ranking from highest to lowest: • • • •
