HONDA Africa Twin is a dual-sport adventure motorcycle produced throughout history.
In the '80s, HONDA had won the Paris-Dakar Rally with the NXR750 in the motorcycle category, so the Africa Twin was developed, manufactured, and marketed as a replica model that provided feedback on its technology. The Africa Twin was adopted as a pet name because of its 4-stroke, 2-cylinder engine.
The first Africa twin, 1988 Honda Africa Twin XRV650, was launched on May 20, 1988. Thereupon, the Africa twin rising its demand for adventure motorcycles.

The 2020 Africa Twin made its Japan Premier in the HONDA booth at the 46th Tokyo Motorcycle Show 2019. The new Africa Twin model has been evolved in 2-ways; CRF1100L Africa Twin and CRF1100L Africa Twin Adventure Sports.
The CRF1100L Africa Twin has been made to a more aggressive rally machine style, not in the conventional adventure tourer, and CRF1100L Africa Twin Adventure Sports has improved its long-distance touring performance more than the previous model. The most remarkable features of the new Africa Twin are the improved output power by increasing its engine displacement and decreasing its weight.

Africa Twin continues to upsurge for the 2020 model to meet the previous model HONDA NXR-750, which won the Paris-Dakar Rally 4 consecutive times in the late '80s. Rally is an off-road endurance race event held in Paris-Dakar where there are deserts and unstable weather. With these hardest routes, the difficulty to reach the goal is unbearable, making some competitors to forcibly retire in these conditions.
