Step back 47 years to the remnants of the development lab of a computer-vision start-up. The lab is gone, the start-up went nowhere, but the system I bought for initial software development survives. This has been in storage since about 1980, when the vision system that was developed was able to support further software development.
This is one of the most complete systems I've ever seen for sale. It consists of the IMSAI 8080 chassis with a Z80 processor card, RAM cards, ROM card, two 8 1/2 and two 5 1/4 floppy drives, floppy controller cards, a serial card, one populated and one unused breadboard card a LSi ADM-3 terminal, cables, manuals, software, and more. Includes an unassembled 8080 processor card kit, which came with the IMSAI.
Also includes a box of product literature for the IMSAI and many other related products from the 1977 to 1980 time period.
I powered up the IMSAI slowly, over a couple of days, to reform the big power-supply capacitors. It powers up, the lights blink when I push the Run switch, but Deposit and Examine do not work sensibly. I suspect the timing of the 74123 one-shots on the control board need adjustment.
The 5 1/4" floppy drives are in enclosures with power supplies. The 8" drives are bare with an external power supply. I have not powered up the floppies.
Includes software and documentation. The floppy media has been in storage for almost 50 years. I have no idea if they are readable.
Some of the tantalum caps on one of the memory boards popped when powered on. This is a well-known problem and easily corrected by replacing the caps.
The safety plastic between the terminal CRT and the glass cover was badly deteriorated and oozed onto the circuit board and keyboard. This is also a well-known problem. I removed the plastic and cleaned the circuit board and keyboard a bit but it will need more before powering it on.
Time for this to go. It is a project and will definitely take some work. We probably should have a conversation about this before discussing cost. Contact through Craigslist. Much to much to ship - local pickup only in Little Silver, NJ, about 10-15 minutes from Garden State Parkway exits 109 and 105.
