Where Are the Best Beaches in Jervis Bay, Australia?

If you’ve clicked on this post, I’m assuming you’re either going to Jervis Bay or are seriously considering it. Firstly, congratulations! You’ve decided to visit a place full of some of Australia’s (and the world’s) best beaches. Where are the best beaches in Jervis Bay though? Which ones should you spend the most time at? Keep reading for more information about the best Jervis Bay beaches.

Huskisson

Huskisson is the main town in Jervis Bay and is a great place to base yourself while exploring the area. Most boat tours leave from Huskisson, but there is plenty to do on dry land too, including some awesome beaches.

Huskisson Beach

Huskisson Beach, located pretty much right in town, is a great place for a stroll, whether you walk along the beach or the path above the sand. It’s probably the first beach you’ll see in Jervis Bay (if you’re staying in Huskisson) and it’s a very strong start! There are (slightly) better beaches in Jervis Bay, but you could do a lot worse than spending your time on Huskisson Beach.

Shark Net Beach

This tiny beach is also in Huskisson (it’s closer to the main drag than Huskisson Beach) and seems like a good place for kids to splash around in the water. I’m not sure if there’s actually a shark net there (someone told me none of the beaches have shark nets) but it’s a cool name (and a very pretty beach).

Moona Moona Creek

A short walk from downtown Huskisson (you should do the walk at least once – the views are great and you might see some colourful birds along the way), Moona Moona Creek is another nice swimming spot with far calmer water than you’ll usually find in Jervis Bay. You can cross the creek and visit Collingwood Beach (which is nice but didn’t quite make this list) or just hang out in the calm, clear water.

Hyams Beach (and surrounding beaches)

Hyams Beach is by far the most famous beach in Jervis Bay, but there are several more (less popular but equally as beautiful) beaches nearby.

Hyams Beach

Hyams Beach really needs no introduction, but I guess I’ll give you one anyway. This long crescent of white sand has become a bit of a social media star over the last few years. It’s said to be the beach with the whitest sand in the world (which may or may not be true – check out my Hyams Beach post to find out!) and is a place you won’t want to miss.

Chinamans Beach

Right next door to Hyams Beach, Chinamans Beach is a quieter (and maybe even nicer) alternative to that raved-about beach. This is also the start of the White Sands Walk, a path which connects several beaches, including the two below.

Greenfield Beach

Yip, it’s another nice beach! Well, more than nice I guess. Greenfield Beach is a short walk from Chinamans Beach and is definitely worth a visit, whether you’re doing the White Sands Walk or not.

Nelsons Beach

This long beach features a path above it where you’ll get some great views. It’s not bad at beach level either – not quite as amazing as some of the others nearby but it still made this list.

Booderee National Park

A short drive from Huskisson, Booderee National Park has some of the most stunning (and unspoilt) beaches in Jervis Bay. There isn’t much development in Booderee National Park, so the beaches have a slightly different vibe to other parts of Jervis Bay. If you’re keen to do some camping in Australia this could be a great option.

Iluka Beach

We visited Iluka Beach first thing in the morning, and it was very quiet. While the water was a little wavy, everything else was perfect and it’s such a photogenic beach.

Green Patch Beach

This is kinda the same stretch of beach as Iluka Beach but there is a little headland you can walk around where you’ll find the small beach pictured below. It’s a really scenic area and apparently you might see some kangaroos (we didn’t though).

Murrays Beach

This is probably the most popular beach in Booderee National Park, and for good reason! It’s a fairly small beach with exotic clear blue water and the whitest of sand. It’s a short walk from the car park to get there and you can also walk up the hill above the beach for views of Bowen Island.

Steamers Beach

I guess Steamers Beach isn’t technically in Jervis Bay (it’s on the other side and opens out to the ocean) but it is stunning and is quite different to beaches mentioned above. I’ve heard sharks frequent this place, so it isn’t a good place to swim, but definitely go there! It takes around 30 minutes to walk to Steamers Beach and is a bit hilly – not the easiest place to visit but it’s well worth it.

The Northern Side

The northern side of Jervis Bay doesn’t get a lot of attention, but we decided to visit anyway. I found the beaches weren’t quite as good (the weather wasn’t great either) and there isn’t too much else to see. If you’re short on time I’d advise you to skip it, but if time is no obstacle it could be a good place to explore.

Hopefully that’s more than enough Jervis Bay beaches for you to explore — there are heaps more though! It’s a place blessed with so many amazing beaches and you can’t really go wrong with wherever you choose.
