CAMAS, Wash. – The early fall sunshine might bring some people out to local waterways for recreation, but Clark County Public Health said it isn’t too late in the year for blue-green algae blooms.

Health officials say water in Round Lake in Camas has tested positive for cyanobacteria blooms.

Blue-green algae produce toxins that can be harmful to people and deadly for small pets that drink the water. The public health department suggests that people:

  • Avoid water contact in areas of scum.
  • Keep pets away from lake water.
  • Clean fish well and discard organs.

The bloom was spotted after the stretch of late season warm weather. Officials posted warning signs around the lake on Tuesday.

Lacamas Regional Park is still open, and water in the bathrooms and shelters is not impacted by the advisory.
