Following the success of Snapper Productions’ preschool series Q Pootle 5 on pubcaster KiKA, Germany’s WDR mediagroup has signed on as the brand’s licensing and merchandising agent in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

The animated series, based on the bestselling books by children’s author and illustrator Nick Butterworth, pulled a 54.5% audience share among three- to five-year-olds, and a 25.4% share for six- to nine-year-olds since launching in KiKA’s 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. timeslot.

The program initially debuted on CBeebies in the UK in 2013, and to date, has been sold into more than 70 countries worldwide.

A UK consumer products program rolled out in fall/winter 2014 with licensees including Proper Distribution (DVDs), Walker Books (TV tie-in books), Egmont (magazines), Jumbo (games and puzzles) and C&M Licensing (apparel).

The series, which follows the adventures of the titular green alien and his friends on their home planet Okidoki, is animated by Blue Zoo and distributed internationally by ZDF Enterprises.
