(KOMO) — Many of you may remember where you were or what you were doing on 9/11 two decades ago.

One woman from Seattle was in New York City on that tragic day.

“The morning we woke up, I saw what looked like the wing of a jet in the air, and I just heard this loud explosion,” said Tami Michaels.

Tami Michaels was staying at a hotel across the street from the World Trade Center on Sept. 11 as she saw tragedy unfold in front of her eyes

Michaels, who is also a talk show host for KOMO radio, called in as KOMO news was live on air to describe what was happening.

“It was the reality seeing those building down, those first responders there, trying to comprehend it, choking on smoke,” Michaels said.

Twenty years later, Michaels feels it’s important for the younger generation to know the stories of 9/11.

“I was definitely alive, but I was so young, there was nothing I could never recollect from it,” said Marshall Bender, student at the University of Washington.

"I’m friends with people who are younger than me," said Max Roberts, students at University of Washington." I’m 31, people that don’t really remember."

And for those who can’t, Michaels has this message.

"The one thing, I hope people do, is they look up the individuals who lost their lives and look up their stories," Michaels said.
