A woman who found a huge huntsman spider curled up in her shower was left even more terrified after being warned to move it in case it fell on her.

Cathy Cox consulted a spider identification group on Facebook after discovering the female arachnid perched near the ceiling in the bathroom of her home in Perth, Australia.

Despite her fears, Ms Cox asked members whether it would be wise to try and move the spider, writing: ‘I have what I believe to be a beautiful huntsman in my shower.

‘She is out of harms way but should I relocate her? FYI heart racing at the thought of the latter.’

They suggested trying to move the huntsman ‘to somewhere more cozy’ in case the steam from the shower made the walls slippery, causing the spider to fall off.

One added: ‘I cannot imagine more horrifying things than her getting a little steamy, losing her footing and dropping onto your shoulder in the shower’.

Others were simply terrified by the close-up photos she posted to help identify the arachnid, the Daily Mail reports.

Another user joked: ‘It looks like it’s the size of a basketball. I would not touch. They have claimed your shower. You can use the hose to wash now.’

A third quipped: ‘Omg why does it look like it could turn on the shower itself?’

Although one of the largest species in Australia and notorious for entering homes and cars, banded huntsman spiders are not aggressive or dangerous to humans.

However, they have large fangs capable of inflicting a painful bite, so direct handling is not recommended.

Anyone looking to move one is recommended to try and guide it into a jar or plastic container.
