November saw the team from Bravehearts visit the Torres Straits to deliver a number of shows to schools in the area.

The Bravehearts presentations are designed to prevent child sexual assault in society. Bravehearts specialist services are instrumental in preventing the sexual assault of Australian children and giving hope and healing to the most vulnerable and precious members of our community – our kids.

Bravehearts aims to empower, educate and protect by providing healing, education and support.

Children are provided with plenty of sexual assault prevention and protection strategies as part of the awareness campaign. The team also advocates for understanding and promotes increased education and research in the community.

Bravehearts employees and their mascot ‘Ditto’ arrived in the Straits and were keen to get started at the schools.

Senior Constable Cheryl Young said the kids and teachers on Horn Island and Thursday Island really enjoyed their visit with Bravehearts and of course they enjoyed seeing Ditto.

Ditto then hit the skies and flew by police air wing to visit Badu, Boigu, Saibai and Darnley Islands where they presented more shows to the keen students on those islands.

Senior Constable Young said, “We helped organise the visit with Bravehearts and it was great to see the kids and teachers interact and engage with the performances.

Ditto was a real hit and the whole trip was a very worthwhile experience for all involved.

We are looking forward to having Bravehearts next visit us in the Straits in 2015.”

Bravehearts are a not for profit organisation and rely on donations made by the community and businesses.
