There is a lot of analysis and strategy content that is formulaic, tedious and unimaginative. I’m guilty of it from time to time because producing intelligent and rational thinking is harder than it looks. Also writing it down. I saw some images go past on my twitter (@etherealmind) feed today that reminded me that the ‘hype cycle’ is particular pain in the ass because its the laziest situational mapping ever.
The hype cycle looks something like this:
This mapping directly relates to many other area. For example, Buyers Remorse is the emotional cycle of buying a major pruchase :
- love the product so you actually spend hard earned money
- have some remorse when its not quite as good as you thought 3/
- then you get used to it
- how did you live without it
Think about the last time you bought a car or a house. Thats a practical experience of the hype cycle.
As another example of how commonplace and everyday the hype cycle concepts is the Grief Cycle
