Nerd Alert: The Google Street View Car

We spotted the Google Street View car. Take a look.

As one of the few journalists that is doing what he does exclusively online, its probably no surprise that I geeked out at the site of the Google Street View car.

For those who don't know, Google Maps comes with a Street View function that lets you see eye-level pictures from the road. In most cases, its a novelty, but I've used it once or twice to find a building while travelling.

I did a quick 180 and doubled back to get a better look at this puppy near Northwoods Mall last week. Patch editor Jonathan Allen said he also spotted the car in West Ashley.

The Street View car was first spotted in Charleston in early 2008 and the first pictures popped up in Dec. '08.

Could the Charleston region soon see some updated Street View shots in the near future?  Goose Creek could sure use an upgrade. The 84 Lumber sign is still up at the corner of Red Bank and Goose Creek Boulevard. The most glaring omission these days appears to be the College of Charleston (particularly St. Philip and Coming).
