Everyone knows what happened between Kristen Stewart and Rupert Sanders. Except… what if we don’t??
That’s what Kristen would have us believe. In a new interview with Howard Stern for his Sirius XM show, the Charlie’s Angel star says the infamous Hollywood affair was not what we thought it was at all!
For those who need a refresher, in 2012 KStew and Robert Pattinson were the hottest young couple in Tinseltown, having starred as romantic leads in the Twilight films and fallen in love IRL besides.

Then in July 2012 photos hit the web showing Kristen full-on kissing her Snow White And The Huntsman director.
It was a rare moment of a celebrity actually being caught redhanded, in flagrante delicto as it were, and it was a freakin’ neutron bomb for their relationships.
Sanders was married with two young children; he issued a public apology to his wife of eleven years, Liberty Ross (who was also in the movie btw!), but as you might imagine that didn’t fix things. The two divorced right after.
Robert and Kristen actually reconciled for a bit — more on that later — but they were never that picture perfect, sparkly couple again. They split for good less than a year later.
When asked about the scandal by Howard on Tuesday morning, Kristen revealed she was annoyed she wasn’t in the 2016 sequel, The Huntsman: Winter’s War, an odd duck film which even removed lead character Snow White from the freakin’ title! She confirmed it was for the reason everyone thought.
“They didn’t put me in that movie because I went through such a highly publicized scandal, they were scared of touching that.”
On the so-called affair, Kristen clarified:
“I wouldn’t say I fell in love with the director, it was kind of a weird thing… but I definitely think that it wasn’t that big of a deal, and the work is so much more important.”
Obviously Howard pressed her, leading her to say definitively about her relationship with Sanders:
“I did not f**k him. This is the most candid interview… no, I didn’t f**k him.”
Um… huh??
Even Howard was incredulous; when he asked why she’d never said that publicly before, she mused:
“Well, who’s going to believe me?”
Sorry to say, she’s absolutely right. What we saw was unmistakeable — two people in the throes of passion, feverishly making out in the woods. Frankly, the only time we see people looking like that and think they may not have had sex is when they’re still teens who haven’t started having sex yet.
OF COURSE we assumed they were having sex. As KStew puts it:
“It looked like… you make out with a dude in public, it looks like you did.”
At least she’s aware.
Innerestingly, we did find a quote from a source close to Kristen back in the day, spilling to Us Weekly at the time:
“Kristen is absolutely devastated. It was a mistake and a complete lapse in judgment. She wasn’t having an affair with Rupert. It was just a fleeting moment that shouldn’t have happened. She never meant to hurt anyone. She’s a good person who just made a bad choice.”
Huh. We just took that to mean it wasn’t an ongoing thing, not that it wasn’t sex.
One person who apparently did believe her was Robert Pattinson. Well, eventually.
Sources at the time also claimed the reason they were able to (temporarily) patch things up is because she was able to convince him they didn’t go all the way:
“Kristen and Rupert both told their respective partners that they didn’t actually have sex. Kristen was absolutely steadfast that she only engaged in several make-out sessions with Rupert but never slept with him. Rob didn’t believe her in the beginning but as time wore on he accepted her explanation. Kristen has given Rob passwords to her voicemail and e-mail account to prove she has nothing to hide and will do anything to get his trust back.”
And her story hasn’t changed in seven years. Wow.
Speaking of how long it’s been, Kristen says of how the scandal was treated contemporaneously:
“We lived in a different time then, the slut-shaming that went down was so absurd.”
What we do remember was everyone talking about the fact she cheated on her boyfriend. And her cheating partner was cheating on his wife.
Kristen did admit what happened “wasn’t innocent” so at least she’s holding herself accountable.
Hilariously, the 29-year-old actually apologized to longtime publicist Ruth Bernstein over the direction the interview had taken, saying:
“You put me on here… you put me on Howard Stern, what did you think was gonna happen?!”
LOLz!
She did move on to happier things, including her upcoming Charlie’s Angels reboot and her relationship with screenwriter Dylan Meyer, which she said is going amazingly — so much so she’s seriously considering popping the question!
Well, all’s well that ends well, we guess.
