'Red Hybrid' is a Brazilian hybrid of the species cauliflora and aureana, which has resulted in a cultivar that unlike many jaboticabas that can typically take over 10 years to fruit, red hybrid generally fruits in 3-5 years in good conditions.

Noted for its unusual habit of cauliflory- where the flowers and subsequently its grape like fruits are born directly on the trunk of the tree, a jaboticaba tree certainly earns a place in any fruit tree  or rare plant collection in zones 9a and above.

Preferring dappled shade and moist to nearly waterlogged acidic soil growing conditions, jaboticaba is a tree that can be grown where many other fruiting species would suffer. Fairly cold tolerant, jaboticaba in general can be attempted as far north as Gainesville with occasional winter protection, or can be container specimens further north. - Jaboticaba have fairly shallow and mainly fiberous roots so make for an ideal container (and sometimes even bonsai) trees for those in marginal growing areas or renters/apartment dwellers. A jaboticaba can easily be successfully grown as a container specimen on a condo balcony indefinitely with occasional root pruning.

Plants are in 3.5 inch pots, under 8 inches tall and close to a year old - should fruit in 3-5 years from this size.
