The Diprotodon, Diprotodon optatum
The Diprotodon is the largest known marsupial of all time and the heaviest of Australia’s megafauna, weighing up to 2700 kilograms. They were widespread across Australia during the last 1.8 million years and became extinct around 30,000 years ago. These huge animals were plant eaters, feeding on leaves from shrubs and small trees as well as scrub grasses. They had a backwards opening pouch.
