In March, Grace Tam, our Senior Member Organisation Partner joined a panel discussion at an International Women's Day 2024 event hosted by Novartis Malaysia. The panel session brought together women from various backgrounds to discuss women leaders in #STEM industries, and to highlight the role of women in shaping the future of healthcare. Grace has been instrumental in building and shaping the work that #WAGGGS is doing on projects to deliver #STEM to Girl Guides and Girl Scouts around the globe, increasing awareness of the gender gap that still exists and helping to inspire more girls to see the potential of #STEM. As a cancer warrior, Grace is grateful for advancements in #STEM which have enabled her to experience a friendlier treatment where she can still do things she is passionate about. This personal experience, drives Grace's belief in the importance of investing in girls and young women to explore and venture into #STEM. Well done Grace! Last week, the Country Coordinators and the Global Programme Manager for our Youth Exchange South to South (#YESS) programme had the opportunity to take part in a three-day training workshop in South Africa hosted by our YESS funding partner Norec. An incredible opportunity to engage in activities and conversations that will help shape the YESS programme now and in the future, and a fantastic way to meet and share knowledge with other organisations that Norec supports. 2024 marks the 10th anniversary of the #YESS programme and our partnership with Norec. It all started with 11 exchange participants from 4 countries in the first year, and has grown to 60 participants this year, representing 14 national girl guiding and girl scouting member organisations in 12 different countries across 2 continents (#Africa and #AsiaPacific). As part of the 10-year celebrations, the programme team has embarked upon a series of #ConnectionMoments with individuals and organisations who have been alongside us on this incredible decade-long journey. It was great to reflect with our Norec colleagues and discuss how the #YESS programme and our partnership brings value to their own mission in the following ways: ✔ The programme embodies real international exchange and global connection. Bringing people together from different parts of the world to connect and to learn from one another is a solid foundation on which to find solutions to many of today’s global problems. ✔ The programme is a true platform for fostering youth participation and youth leadership giving young people the opportunity to learn, lead and grow. ✔ The programme empowers young women - furthering and strengthening their rights and giving them the skills to forge a more equal world where all girls can thrive. The vision and leadership of #RobinaSentumbweAsiimwe (Global Programme Manager for YESS) is what drives this remarkable programme. Her commitment to supporting and empowering young women through the exchange experience and beyond, is unwavering. We are also grateful for the support and partnership from Norec and delighted to be hosting some of their team on a project visit this week in #Zambia, #Uganda and #Rwanda.
