Overview

Located within the community of Bronte in the eastern suburbs of Sydney, Bronte Beach is a 250-meter-long world-famous immensely popular beige sand beach with many rocky portions. The beach is positioned at the bottom of steep cliffs and is tucked between two well-known beaches, the bigger Coogee Beach to the north and Bondi Beach to the south. It has a beautiful backdrop of the 10-hectare Bronte Park, Bronte House, headlands, opulent oceanfront homes, Bronte Surf Life Saving Club, and concrete platforms, which together offer incredible views. Bronte Beach is part of the Bronte-Coogee Aquatic Reserve, which is home to many marine invertebrates, including western blue groper, blacklip abalone, eastern rock lobster, southern rock lobster, anemones, barnacles, chitons, cockles, crabs, mussels, octopus, oysters, pipis, sea urchins, sea stars, snails, and worms.

Activities

Bronte Beach is a family-friendly beach that offers many fun activities, including swimming, sunbathing, snorkeling, surfing, paddleboarding, rock fishing, and rockpooling.  If you are planning to go into the water, swimming is permitted, but we advise caution as the water is known to have unpredictable rip currents and many underwater rocks.  Visitors can also enjoy two ocean pools (a small pool of seawater that forms along the coastline and is a microhabitat that is home to many sea creatures) positioned on the southern end of the beach, the Bronte Baths and the Bogey Hole, which provide safe swimming areas.  There is a point near the beach known for taking the best Bronte Baths photos.

Bronte Beach is home to a renowned surf zone, one at either end against the headlands and a third one in the center, making it a popular spot among surfers.  The southern headland rip is popularly known as the 'Bronte Express' and provides a fast ride out to sea.  If you enjoy fishing, you may catch a variety of fish.   There is a paved coastal footpath that runs along the rocky cliff near the beach, which is frequented by tourists, runners, and walkers to enjoy the Bronte Beach sunrise.   An annual long-distance ocean swimming competition takes place between Bondi Beach and Bronte in December.  A Bronte Beach cam is installed near the shore and offers a real-time feed of the beach conditions.  Dogs are allowed if they are on a leash, and it is open from sunrise until sunset.

Disability

Bronte Beach does not offer an access path for people with disabilities.
