Inspired by Sewing Bee TV (Moderated by Sharon1952)

This is probably of more interest to UK-based sewists, but Vogue UK has just issued a limited edition "pattern adaptation" for a Mondrian dress (sizes 6-24) inspired by the one that was featured on Episode 5 of current series of the Great British Sewing Bee.
See here: V1557.
I know it's marketing and all that (and the dress is not my style so I won't buy it), but I quite like that they did this.
I ordered a couple of patterns from Simplicity UK recently, and they sent out an email to apologise for sending orders out late - apparently the response to the Sewing Bee is overwhelming them a bit! Mind, I love the show myself and can't wait for the next episode.

I saw that and like it, too. I do wish it was actually like the one on the show, which I think had a stripe/block below the hips, not just the upper chest and vertical separation. But it's a great idea!

My mother had a RTW Mondrian dress when I was a kid. A few decades ago. She loved that dress, and it was far, far more......Mondrian. More blocks, not so even. That dress makes me think more of a flag than Mondrian.

Little strokes fell great oaks. On the other hand, go big or go home!

The pattern included in the latest Great British Sewing Bee book is the one the contestants used on the show, with the asymmetric blocking.

Love the look of Mondrian.
I would just splice a shift dress pattern or make a tshirt dress and colour block it.

Yes, now that you've pointed it out, it does look like a flag! I guess they couldn't reproduce the original, or the one from the show too closely without getting into trouble.

Rather like this
BurdaStyle 'mash up', which is far more interesting.

I just did some googling for the Yves Saint Laurent Mondrian dress and it appears that there was more than one version of it. (Who knew?)

And note the original Vogue patterns version:

You can see from a side view in the first link that the colorblocking goes around the body to the back also. Not sure why the new pattern version doesn't also do this, although it's easy enough to replicate with a basic sheath dress design.

You can see the original Vogue pattern from this etsy listing and don't know why Vogue didn't just re-issue the original. Another case of dumbing down.
