This is a knockoff of Yves Saint Laurent's iconic 1965 wool jersey Mondrian dress. I used Gertie's shift dress from one of her books as a base, measured a printed copy of the actual YSL dress to get the proportions right for the sections, and moved all shaping into the colorblocking seams. There were 35 pattern pieces. A few tips: - The black lines are not uniform. Well done! This has been my dream dress to make for a number of years. I salute your efforts, especially self drafting. I am thinking of using different colors, but I just need to actually get to it. Great going!

As soon as I saw this I knew it was a Mondrian dress! I recall this from the Great British Sewing Bee and it looked like it was a real bear to sew - and you accomplished it without a pattern. Great job!

Did you make it? I'm thinking of making a short sleeved version. I was around for the original so my upper arms aren't what they were. 😁
