Lykke Li’s Black on Black on Black

Last week I confessed my love for all things Swedish. Music, fashion, lifestyle, five weeks of required paid vacation… I even love Ikea. Honest. Although I recognize that some believe it to be a cruel desert waste land that extends for miles upon miles, I, however, get a little bit giddy when I hop in the car knowing I’m en route to that larger than Costco-sized warehouse filled with home decor. It’s like a kid going to Disneyland. Only I can take back so many new space-saving gadgets for my closet and lamps that require special bulbs to my Swedish-sized apartment.

Another Swedish favorite is indie Swedish pop-electronic artists Lykke Li. Earlier this week she also released a captivating collaborative single “I’m Waiting Here” with David Lynch. You can already stream it through Spotify. She’s also had past EPs and albums produced by Björn Yttling (Peter Bjorn & John). Getting her “Possibility” featured on the New Moon soundtrack helped expand her audience in 2009, and has since continued to gain celebrity status.

I have a true affinity for the marriage of fashion and music, so like all of my favorite musical artists, I also respect her style. And she has some credentials to back it up. In 2011, Donna Karen invited her to perform live at DKNY‘s show during New York Fashion Week. In 2010 she was the official face for Levi’s Curve ID Collection. In 2012 she signed-on to one of the top high-fashion modeling agencies: Viva Model Management. And more recently Li also performed during the Etam lingerie Paris Fashion Week show.

Lykke Li’s personal look is testament to her Swedish upbringing. Swedes are known for simplifying complex concepts, and Lykke does so by cutting color out from her wardrobe, focusing primarily on the cut. She also likes vintage and has a habit of wearing hats and covering up her bare legs by wearing trousers or tights. Loads of silver accessories and rings from around the world anchor her look. Last but not least, shoes are always important, and Li has admitted that if she does wear heels, they must be stripper heels.

So  I went ahead and found some very chic items that I like to think live in Lykke Li’s closet.

Anything from Rag&Bone. I think they completely identify with her style.

Black tights. I am loyal to these J. Crew tights because they of the few pairs that last more than three wears without snagging.

Black dresses from MiniMarket, one of her favorite places to casually shop.

See By Chloe’s basics focus on fit and simplicity.

Although I don’t know if I could ever execute on a monochromatic wardrobe, I always look up to her sense of fashion. What do you think about the monochromatic look?
