James Cook University Singapore (JCU Singapore) was founded in 2003 and is a higher education institution in Singapore. The university was created to conduct training and research in areas important to the tropics.

JCU Singapore offers a wide range of educational programs at all levels of training and developing skills in critical thinking, problem solving and effective communication.

Educational process

While studying on the Singapore campus, students have the opportunity to explore Asia through participation in an exchange program. This will allow them to spend one or two trimesters, that is, 4 to 8 months, on partner campuses of the university.

Scientific achievements

The educational institution was founded with the aim of conducting research that is important for local residents and the ecology of the tropics. To this day, the university implements high-quality research in which both experienced staff, teachers, and students participate. The main areas of study are environmental sciences, management, marine sciences and ecology, biochemistry and biology, health and medicine, history and customs of Australian Aborigines and Torres Strait peoples. English Language Preparatory Program 

  • Age - from 18 years,
  • Dates – March, July, November,
  • Language level – from IELTS 4.0,
  • The training period is four months.

This program was designed to develop the language skills of those students who are not yet ready to enroll in higher education programs.

In the classroom, students will address contemporary topics important to the globalized world, attend lectures, read, and complete assignments. Each lesson, over the course of four months allocated to one language level, focuses on reading, writing, listening, and speaking, which are complemented by academic literacy skills.  For example, at all levels, students are required to give regular presentations to their classmates and teachers, demonstrating the knowledge gained.

Students' ability to learn independently develops in stages, with students being asked to complete more coursework on an autonomous basis as they progress through the program. For example, third-level students will spend 12 weeks honing their academic and language skills through classroom work, one-on-one tutoring, and self-directed study, culminating in a 1500-word essay and academic presentation on a topic of their choice. 

Students intending to pursue a master's degree develop their academic language skills at the fourth level, equivalent to IELTS 6.5.

Pre-University Preparation Program

  • Age - from 18 years,
  • Dates – March, July, November,
  • Language level – from IELTS 5.5,
  • The duration of training is from eight months to a year.

The preparatory program provides an opportunity for students who do not meet the strict requirements for admission to a bachelor's degree to improve their skills within eight months or one year. The course has two formats: standard with a shorter duration and annual advanced.

During the time chosen by the student, he will attend lessons in 10 subjects:

Postgraduate Qualifying Program (Business)

  • Dates – March, July, November,

  • The training period is four months.

This course is suitable for students who have received a qualification in the field of business, but want to develop their knowledge and get a high-paying position in leading companies. Over the course of four months of regular attendance (or eight months in the evening), students will practice academic and professional skills, depending on their goals.

If you want to work in the field of business administration, international tourism and hospitality, the student will have to choose three subjects from the list:

  • Evidence-based business decision-making,
  • Business negotiations,
  • People management,
  • Destination management and scheduling.

If you want to continue your studies in the magistracy in the specialization of information technology, business administration, you must choose one direction of the highest level: business or information technology.

After successful completion of the course, graduates enter further levels of higher education or start working in their specialty.
