Kryptolebias (Rivulus) marmoratus (Poey,1880), the Mangrove Rivulus, is capable of respiring not only through its gills, but through its skin. It is capable of self-fertilization of its own eggs via meiosis, although males of its species are also existent. This is more than parthenogenesis, but more advanced and the fry are just more than clones of the mother- they differ slightly generationally thereby reducing issues with inbreeding . It is the only known simultaneous hermaphroditic vertebrate! It is also capable of reproducing terrestrially and due to its specialization as a mangrove dweller, it is “arboreal” by definition by surviving in tree boles, etc and logs during low tide. In captivity it is known to live 8 yrs, at least- a methuselah for killies and most fish smaller than 2inches! It is found along the east coast of North, Central and South America, from Florida to Brazil. (1). Source: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mangrove_rivulus#
