Looking forward to some information about the new 3D Smurfs movie? Well look no further, as pictures surfaced a few days ago of the first images from the production of the film in NYC involving the only live action performance by Hank Azaria as Gargamel.
In the 3D August 3, 2011 release, the evil wizard Gargamel chases the tiny blue Smurfs out of their village and they tumble from their magical world into ours – in the middle of Central Park. Just three apples high and stuck in the Big Apple, the Smurfs must find a way to get back to their village before Gargamel tracks them down. Source Comingsoon
The pictures are pretty compelling and seem spot on in terms of remaining true to the original character design. Only time will tell if this will be a fruitful re-imagining or another lame-duck attempt to bank on a pre-existing franchise.
